Trimming the farmhouse

IMG_4252-TUNED-web I thought it would be easy to install about 150 feet of trim – mostly base trim. It only took me about 5 hours to rip it all to width and get primer plus two coats of paint on it yesterday so today should have been just a matter of cutting to length and installing. I didn’t count on the fact that 45 degrees means 48 and all those nice angled walls added up to six inside 48 degree corners, four outside 90 degree corners, and two outside 45 degree corners. The killer were those 48 +/- angles. my compound miter saw can only go to 45 degrees. Obviously those 48’s were not my idea. I guess the rough carpenters were laughing this 4th of July at my expense.

Well, eight hours later and the bulk of the trim is in. I still have the kitchen and office to do but with all of their built-ins, it will be mostly small stuff and will need to wait.

I still have lots of holes to fill and some gaps because the sheet rockers were also laughing this weekend thanks to the subtle bows the created at most of the 45 degree corners because we all know that if you only need to use a small amount of plaster, you might as well pile it on. It sure would be nice if "professionals" did professional work.
