OK, this is getting ridiculous! I can blog from the browser but that’s a PITA. I can blog from my blackberry for simple text stuff. I really want a good tool for the majority of my writing.
In my “thunderbird” attempt, I was trying to include a picture. Here goes again …
Beyond the basics, this [...]

This past week we finally got a cold spell … really cold. On Wednesday we had a high temp of about 12 !
I have a friend who has three golden retrievers. The youngest really likes it cool. His ears perk up when he hears the AC kick on and you can usually find him [...]

I was on the phone this morning with family down in Virginia. We were all commenting that it’s ben a strange winter and we still see grass here in Northern Massachusetts. Well, the phone conversation wasn’t even over when the snow kicked up and it looked like it could get heavy.
It turned out to [...]

It’s a little bit of a blessing that we have not had as much snow this year as in years past. You see, I tell friends, “I hate snow - but I tolerate it because Zen loves it so much.” To make my point, here are two pictures … from Zen’s first and second winter, [...]

It’s past time for bed and Zen knows it. My house has automatic thermostats that set back to 55 at night. The only problem is when I stay up past the usual bed time. Not only does it mess up Zen’s sleeping habit a bit, but she gets cold and needs to get creative [...]

It’s now been 3 months since Zen injured her right rear leg. It’s been a bit frustrating, not knowing the exact nature of the injury, but all signs pointed to a deep muscle / soft tissue injury. We had a follow exam with Dr. Schulz at the end of January. I even brought a video of [...]

I was about to call it a night but decided to do one last task at the computer. For grins and giggles I decided to Google “+Zen +Pug” to see if there were any pictures of my dog. (It’s a bit like Googling your own name to see what you find.) Well, I did [...]

The snow may be gone soon but I managed to capture a few “Zen moments” on the snow this past week. She loves the snow so I tolerate the cold to see her so happy. This year, the Valentines Day snow left a crust just hard enough for her to run on top … most [...]

This will be the last “health related” post for Zen - at least I truly hope so. In a couple of weeks we will start agility training again and see how much she (and I remember).
As I mentioned in my last update on Zen (about a month ago), we’ve been trail walking. With the [...]

I know two friends who have never met. They live in different towns. they have different careers. They are on different paths which will likely never intersect - not because they are so different but because they are so much the same. Their paths are meandering along nearly parallel to one another.

There is another of the “tell us stuff we don’t know” blog chains going around. I don’t know who the idiot is who started this one but I thought the first one (”5 things”) was good enough. Still, these “things” have a life of their own and the odds were good - sooner or later [...]

Zen has taken to the new training grounds with glee. Today she managed some structure training, followed by swimming, and washing up. The requisite nap was squeezed in before heading out to the pitch for a pick-up game of ball. It was all Zen all the time. The other players didn’t have a chance …
She [...]

I don’t know what happened but one minute, my mild mannered little ball of fur was happily playing and the next, she was replaced with this crazy looking dog with three legs on one side and one on the other. Obviously, the resulting dog was unable to stand, and lay flopped on the floor.

I got a note from my friends at “Paws 4 Play” - where Zen use to get daycare before we moved. They have put up a website and it’s got a great video of the dogs at play in the “dog bone” pool (yes, the doggy in-ground pool is shaped like a cartoon doggy bone. [...]

A lot has been reported about the dog fighting case and Michael Vick. Now that he has pleaded what is left is (1) the verdict and (2) what society here in the United States will do with the knowledge and the publicity. There are a lot of very serious issues to be addressed. I hope they [...]

A few friends recently asked me “So, what made you choose a Pug ?” I don’t have a good answer to the question but it always comes back to “What are you looking for in a dog ?” If you are not familiar with lots of breeds, a fun resource is the “Breed Selection [...]

When Zen was just one year old, she and I went to “summer camp” together. Yes, “summer camp”. You may have thought it was only for kids. Well, it a way it still is. If you and your K-9 companion(s) still play like kids, or want to learn new stuff, or just “sit around and [...]
