Is Firefox 3 really *that* different ?
I was invited to web conference today. I spend a lot of time in web conferences and phone conferences. This one was being hosted on the Sametime Unyte service (formerly WebDialogs). I was connecting from a new machine so I ran the “system test tool” It said I had the right browser, JVM, plugin, and was “good to go”. I entered the meeting and it said I was missing a plugin. I click to install and it can’t find the plugin. So, I go back, hunt and hunt and hunt on the website and finally find the installer. I install. Restart Firefox. Enter the meeting. Same error - missing the plugin.
It turns out (1) the system test tool lied. I did not have a supported browser. I only found out by googling for “Sametime Unyte” and “Firefox 3″.
I found this …
Q. Does Sametime Unyte Meeting support Firefox 3?
A. Currently Firefox 3 is being evaluated but is not currently a supported browser. To see the details of the browsers that are currently supported please review the System Requirements: http://www.webdialogs.com/support/system.asp
Why it is that Firefox 3 seems to be such a dillema ?

Amen to that. It’s been driving me nuts on my Mac.

Sametime Unyte is one of a very small number of apps I use that doesn’t work. For that one, Safari works just fine.

Hi Rob - I actually tried Safari on my last “machine build” but hit a bit of a learning curve with it’s UI and look and feel (I’ve become a bit of a Luddite). To be totally honest, I am surprised Unyte and Safari get along - “glad”, but “surprised”.
