Measure a few dozen times, just to be sure
Zen and I headed down to the farm to mark the building site and to check out the wheat crop. It took the better part of 2 hours to find the right alignment of the building and stake the corners square and true. This is one of the cases where you don’t have the option to say, “can you move it a little to the left”.
While I was busy with the surveying, Zen was off checking the growth rate of the wheat. Here is a picture of Zen in the field …
The barn will be 80′x60′ and I have a 240′x250′ site in which to place it so I spend a considerable amount of time checking sight lines, prevailing breezes (for afternoon tea), morning sun, etc. It helped that I have finished the draft of the floorplan so I can judge where the kitchen and my office will be. Most of the windows will be along the porch side of the building so it is important to maximize the views.
Here is a look from the “future” kitchen window …
Not very appealing at the moment. You need a lot of imagination with this project ! Once the tree line is planted and about 20 years have passed, you won’t see the neighbors across the street. <grin>
