The obligatory New Year’s post
I’ve been emailing back and forth with one of the few people who knows me … really knows me - the good, the bad, and the skeletons in the closet. In all the text that transpired, I kept thinking what would be the one perfect image to sum up 2007.
This evening, after doing some long over due house cleaning, I turned around to realize I had not wound the tower clock for some days. Then it dawned on me, the image for 2007 would be *time*.
2007 represents 365 days 5 hours 48 minutes and 56 seconds. It represents a lot of time, a lot of things that took time, and a lot of time spent “waiting”. It also represented a lot of time waisted. Wasted trying to changes things that didn’t need changing. Wasted trying to make things happen ‘just a certain way’. Wasted trying to change other people.
Fortunately for me, through it all, there were friends and family and Zen. Zen started 2007 in the midst of physical therapy for a sports injury. That is a distant memory now - thankfully. She still snores on occasion. She gets to sleep on the bed more than she use to. I’m getting soft.
I can’t say I will manage 2008 any better. I already know there will be a bunch of “waiting”. I also know I’m not yet ready to give up hoping some people will change. I’m stubborn like that. I’m too much the optimist.
So I welcome 2008 and the challenges, opportunities, and experiences it brings.
Zen and I wish everyone a fulfilling 2008.
BTW: The Arnold & Lewis Tower clock is still keeping great time … every second of the 365:05:48:56 long year !
