How many blogs do you have ?
I got an email from a colleague over the weekend. In her ’sig’ she listed all they ways to reach her including two different blogs - one for work and one for personal stuff. Interestingly, it was her personal blog that had the following …
Managing an online identity is much more challenging that managing a physical one. It feels like a constant battle between a professional presence and a personal presence.

I agree we all have many facets and one approach is to compartmentalize things. In the virtual world that could be multiple personas on different blogs, social sites, etc. In the real world, short of being a CIA spook, we don’t keep multiple distinct personas.
For years, I have done something similar with multiple email addresses. But, now that I have a pretty good spam solution, I am started to collapse even those down. I’m not down to “one” but that is mostly a security issue.
I thought about a “work” blog but then why not also a “clocks” blog, and a “cooking” blog, etc. In the end, I took my lead from a number of interesting blogs (tecosystems, vowe.net, Return-to-the-Center - some mostly personal, some mostly professional. They all took the approach of “one blog” (at lest I think they did) and what I really like about it is I occasionally get a glimpse into their “other” life and interests (depending on what the majority of their blog is). Granted, when I blog about collaboration or Web 2.0 etc, my family has no clue. But, on more than one occasion, it has caused one of them to ask “what was that you said on your blog”. It means they get a little snippet of what I do for work. Likewise, those techie readers get exposed to other things like antique clocks, the environment, and woodworking.
So, I have made the decision for “one blog”. That does not mean I am always happy with the choice. Hence, my question to others- what advantages have you found in having two blogs ? Would you consider going to one blog ? If you went to three blogs, what would the third content-area be ?
It’s an interesting subject - don’t ask me why, but it caught my attention this morning.
