Synopsis of a Geek
In my morning reading, I came across a “ten things about geeks” post. (I won’t get into the source, but if you know which one I read, go ahead and giggle to yourself.) In the ten “reasons” I saw the following …
a geek has no problem accepting that sometimes you want mocha ripple cherry fudge chunk swirl with almonds and a waffle [cone] and sometimes you want vanilla lite.
This is so true and pretty telling of the kinds of people I call “friends”.
One friend told me of of a writing exercise she had just completed - “try to write your own personal ad”. In it she had written, “I listen to NPR and MTV” (this was back in the 80’s). I laughed a bit but also realized it was her way of saying she had diverse interests.
Near the other end of the spectrum was my college girlfriend who always ordered the same food in a restaurant and always ordered the same ice cream, regardless of where we were - chocolate almond. It drove me nuts. Given all the variety, you gotta want to experiment (at least a little).
So, go ahead and substitute any label you want for “geeks”. The most interesting people are curious and open to new ideas and experiences. It helps if they are articulate too.
In case your curiosity is just too much, here is the source. ![]()
