And the answer is ?

First, a big “thanks” to Carl for making the trip. I can’t imaging 2200 miles in 60 hours is most people’s idea of fun. I would not have made the run solo.

We made it back from Chicago in 17 1/2 hours (same as the outbound trip). Carl, the clock, and I are back in good working order.

I’ll write more on the clock as I start the restoration. First I need to unload it. Which brings me to the title above. I managed to unload one part of the clock - the drive weight. We all debated just how big and heavy it was, while we were attempting to load it into the truck. To give it’s physical size in some recognizable, context, here is the weight with a 2l bottle of seltzer.

Thanks to a hard packed snow bank in my driveway, unloading the weight was a simple matter of gravity. Once I moved it into the garage, I had to find out the answer. The trick was how to lift it onto the scale without breaking anything - especially my hands, fingers, or feet.
