Making a mess of my quaint little brook
Last summer, my town tried to do the right thing and fix a potential flooding problem with a brook that runs behind my house (and the houses along my street). They did a nice job. Unfortunately, someone in town called the state who made a quick visit to the site and decided the correct permits etc had not been processed so they slapped the town with a big fine and made the promise to restore everything (i.e. make it as bad as it once was).
Well, today they started “restoring everything”. I say that VERY loosely because the first thing they did was bring in a huge excavator and follow that with dump truck after dump truck of rocks and gravel. It turns out, to get to the brook, they first need to make a temporary dirt road (even though they did not need to the first go-around). A full day’s work, and they have most of the 100ft dirt road/ramp done.
The real question is what are they planning for the brook. It’s been great since it was cleaned and allowed to flow freely since early summer. I hate to think what “improvement” will come from this “restoration”.
